This painting is a self portrait. I chose this specific picture for my watercolor painting because it was from a really great memory of being in Greece. I also thought that it would be a good picture to use a lot of color in my hair and have a different range of colors in the background because of the ocean and sky behind me. Because my watercolor has a wide range of colors, I used a mixture of both cool and warm colors and made sure they were complimentary. In the sky I used warm colors and in the ocean I used cool colors. My hair was a picture of warm pinks and cool blues and purples. I would say that the point of emphasis in my composition is my hair because I used so many different colors in it instead of making it one solid color. I feel that the contrast of my glasses, then to my hair, and then the background, keeps the viewers eyes roaming around the painting. I believe that the most successful aspects of this painting is the facial features and how I feel that it really looks like me. One thing I would change about my painting is that I would try to blend the sky and ocean into one another.
